Discover Föhr
Did you know that Germany's first youth fire brigade was founded in Oevenum in 1885? Or that around six million ducks were once caught in Föhr's six bird boxes? Have you ever heard that the western part of Föhr was only transferred from Denmark to Prussia in 1864? As you can see, there are plenty of exciting stories on the green island! Even die-hard Föhr fans are sure to learn something new on our guided island tours.
In around 1.5 to 2 hours, our enthusiastic tour guides will give you interesting insights into Föhr's history and culture. For example, you will learn why three languages are spoken on Föhr and why all thatched houses have a gable above the front door. You can also take a look at the neighbouring islands of Sylt and Amrum from the Dunsum dyke and marvel at a garden fence made of whale ribs in Nieblum. In between, there is of course time for little anecdotes - such as that of "Happy Matthias", a Föhrer who is said to have caught a particularly large number of whales in his day.
